The Many Benefits of Apple Cider Vinegar

A few days ago on social media, I posted a daily drink that I have and received several questions about it. You see, I love to have 2 Tbsp of apple cider vinegar mixed with 2 Tbsp raw honey in a cup of hot water. People were like What are the benefits of THAT?

Let me simply say that our blood is meant to be alkaline vs. acidic. Many of the foods today, including fast food, processed food, coffee, alcohol, and dairy are acidic in nature. It’s thought that acidic foods are a main culprit in many physical ailments.

And apple cider vinegar helps alkalinize the body.

So how is it made? Apples are crushed and juiced. It’s then put through a fermentation process using bacteria and yeast. The product is hard apple cider because the sugars produce alcohol. The hard apple cider then goes through a second fermentation process and the alcohol turns into vinegar. Although I buy mine, you can make your own. Note to self: Check it out and start doing so.

When you buy apple cider vinegar, be sure that it’s raw, unfiltered & organic. Clear vinegar doesn’t have any of the health properties of apple cider vinegar. My go-to brand is Bragg’s. You can easily buy it at a health food store. In fact many mainstream grocery stores carry it as well.

Not only does it help alkalinize our body, it can also help to improve digestion by stimulating stomach enzymes, can neutralize stomach acid, can help normalize our intestinal bacteria, can help with overall immunity, can help stabilize our blood sugar, & is believed to help detoxify the liver. Whew, that was a mouth full!

And that’s just the beginning…

It can be used in many other situations, including:

  • Can help hair to shine when used as a rinse following shampooing.
  • Can be added to a bath to soothe sunburned skin
  • May remover stains from teeth when directly applied and then removed with water (pssst…I haven’t tried this one.)
  • Can dilute in water and spray on pets for a natural flea repellant
  • Is useful in killing nail fungus
  • Can be used as a skin toner

Seriously the list goes on and on.

My ACV of choice is Braggs Apple Cider Vinegar

Apple cider vinegar is one of the ingredients that should be a constant staple in the kitchen. If you don’t have it, add it to your grocery list this week. It’s inexpensive and the benefits far outweigh the cost. Enjoy!
